God REALLY cares about lights!
If you are still here, then you've read the last post and you saw that God answered my shallow but heartfelt prayer about Christmas lights. Well, he wasn't through yet....
I went to church tonight for a Christmas program and when I came home I noticed we had several new light additions in the front yard! Scotty said that right after I had left for church, there was a knock on the front door. It was our friend Chris Woodruff and his 5 year old son CJ. CJ handed Scotty 6 boxes of lights and said, "We brought these over for you to use because we don't need them." Y'all, I am so glad I wasn't here because I would have scared that little boy to death with how much I cried!!! It was so simple and they probably thought it wasn't that big of a deal. They probably thought they were just bringing lights and didn't realize they were bringing a message of hope and encouragment from our Savior to 2 weary people. I don't think I'll ever look at our Christmas lights the same again!

God cares about lights
Anyhow...
As we pulled out our Christmas decorations this year, we were sad to see that almost everything we used to light our old house won't work here. We LOVE to decorate for Christmas, so this was a real bummer. We put up our wreaths and some lighted garland around the door. We both agreed that with all of the huge bushes in the front, some net lights would be great. But, not in the budget. I realize it may sound shallow, but it was just kind of a downer. I think it just kind of represented how our whole year has felt. I was pulling out of the driveway last week telling God I was ok with it, but was there any way we could get some lights for the bushes? A super sale somewhere? Someone who didn't want theirs? I'd take anything!
Fast forward to this past Tuesday...
My birthday club group met to celebrate my birthday and Christmas. We all brought a gift from our house that we didn't want anymore to play "dirty Santa".....can you see where I'm going with this? Yes, I picked the box that my friend Courtney had brought, full of Christmas decor and 4 boxes of NET LIGHTS FOR THE BUSHES!!!!
Can you believe that???? God cares about lights! More specifically, God cares that I cared about lights. I'm still absorbing it, and I love it!
I am so grateful for this small but very significant reminder that God will supply for all of our needs. He even supplies for some of our frivolous wants. So when the paycheck isn't matching our budget book, I remind myself that it will by ok, because we serve the God of light(s)!

Thankful
I'm thankful...
- for a husband that loves me and loves our family so well
- for having our needs met in tough times
- for my parents...don't know what we'd do without them
- for my children
- for my friends
- for a Savior who loves me
- for a new church home
- for our health
- for cars that are paid for
- for food on the table
- for freedom
There is more, but there's a start! I hope that everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!

The Elmo Cake
If you are on facebook (and I'm pretty sure that anyone reading my blog...all 3 or 4 of you....are on facebook too!) then you saw my comment about the Elmo cake. The gist of it was that if I ever talk about making an Elmo cake again, remind me to just go to Publix. Anyhow, here it is! A $13 Elmo cake pan and 3 batches of icing later! The 3 batches of icing is because I made 1 batch and did the eyes, nose, and mouth. Then I tried to make red. I ended up with a really bright hot pink. So I tried again, and ended up with an orange-ish-brown. Not pretty. So I tried again and ended up with a weird shade of purple. And this is all using $14 Wilton food coloring, not just cheap Betty Crocker stuff. My mom, who used to cater weddings, told me that the only way I'd get a true red is to use a powder that they sell at cake stores (when was the last time you saw a cake store?). There is only ONE that I know of, and it's in Tucker, and my dad was so sweet to go yesterday and buy some for me, which they brought over this morning an hour before the party so we could finish Elmo! So as I said, next time I get this idea, tell me to call Publix!!!
Happy 2nd Birthday Molly!!!!

Back to Life, back to reality...
Last year on this trip, Molly started really walking. This year, Jack started really sleeping though the night!! He had been doing 8 hours, but he went to 12, sleeping from 7:30-7:30! Yea!!!! And I loved getting up to feed him in the morning, because I got to sit in a chair in the main room and watch this...

All Smiles and deep thoughts
Here he is all dressed up for his Bulldogs last week when they played Alabama (and I use the term "played" loosely....poor UGA!)
Jack after the game.....bummer!
It's kind of hitting me that unless the Lord plans otherwise, this is my LAST baby! My mother is just convinced that I'm going to end up with a surprise #3 (or #4....Hi Emmie!), but this will really probably be my last. There are a lot of little "lasts" that come with it that I'm already encountering....last time I'm up at 2am nursing a baby (I'm actually a little sad!), last time I use those teeny diapers, last time we need 0-3 month clothes (he is already into 3-6 month stuff!), last time I'll use the car carrier.....not really anything monumental, but for some reason it's a little sad all the same. I'm more aware of how fast it goes now that Molly is almost 2, which I just can't believe! Wasn't she my little baby just yesterday? I guess with the world kind of going crazy right now, with the stock market crashing, banks collapsing, a historic presidential election, and a massive gas shortage (if you live in Atl., you know what I mean!), I've gotten a little more sentimental about my kids. They won't be babies for long, and what kind of world am I raising them in? It seems like things are nosediving a lot faster than when I was growing up. We all hear the horror stories, but there has been a subtle shift in public attitude towards things that unnerves me. More people, believers and non-believers, are seemingly "lukewarm" to the things that used to be generally accepted as abominable. I know that some will argue that more tolerance is a good thing. "Love the sinner, hate the sin"........but are people really hating the sin anymore? Or is it too hard for people to define sin, since what was black and white has now been painted different shades of gray? Even churches have fallen prey, preaching pop-psychology and watered down truth so as not to offend. It terrifies me to think of raising my precious girl and boy in such relativism, and it challenges me to make sure I don't get sucked in.
Wow, how did I get here from talking about Jack smiling? : )
I'll end on what I thought was funny.....
Dressing Molly this morning was like wrestling a greased pig. I finally got fed up and held her up to my face and said, "Molly, that is enough! You need to cooperate or go to time out! I'm going to put your clothes on now. Say, "cooperate"!" Molly looked at me and dutifully said, "Koala bear!"......I love her interpretation!

You may want to skip this one
- I had birthday club last night and we ate outside, which was glorious! It was really cool out, and it got me so excited about the fall! Sunny days, cool nights, long sleeves and jackets, fires, hot tea....I love it!
- My friend Christy is potty training her son while 25 weeks pregnant with number 3. Did I mention she has a very strong willed son? It's not smooth sailing to say the least, and I really feel for her because I was JUST pregnant and it takes so little to push you over the edge! (and I call opening the bathroom door to find your son has dropped a poo on the floor, which is now smeared everywhere, more than a "little"!)
- My friend Heather is trying something new and fairly intense for the sake of good health, and I'm really proud of her. Can't wait to see the results!
- My mom and I went to the outlets today to buy new shoes for Molly. Did you know that having your feet measured is like having your toenails pulled out? I didn't either. But Molly made it clear to everyone within a 5 mile radius that the 2 are equally painful.
- My friend Gretchen talked me off the ledge today as I called her literally in tears over my daughters performance at the shoe store. She puts on the same performance rather frequently in public. Or if anyone talks to her. Or touches her. Or breathes at her. You get the picture.
- Why do mom's feel so guilty for their children's behavior?
- My son is huge. He will be 7 weeks old soon and weighs about 14 pounds. Seriously.
- I put both of my children down today for naps at 1:30, and it is 4:30 and they are just waking up. It might be the best day of my life. Oops, nope. Forgot about the shoe store thing. Definitely not the best day!
- Who in the world will the next president be? I normally don't discuss politics in mixed company, but this is my blog, and dear Lord please don't let it be Obama! The man won't even say the freakin pledge of allegiance!
- My friends are going to the beach this weekend without me. I'll be home nursing a baby. I'm bummed.
- "This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it!"
Well, if you have hung around this long, you must be as bored and half brain dead as I am! Molly is up now.....time to make the donuts....

Old Friends
On a totally different "mommy" note, I have reached the point after having a baby where I feel like all I want is a day off. I'm weary. The kids have really been great, but the busyness and the late nights and the interrupted sleep are getting to me. I have found myself near tears on several occasions for no good reason other than I am just TIRED! Well, I'm tired and I hate my hair. And I don't have any clothes that fit. And I'm afraid Jack might get lost in the folds of my stomach. And I have my postpartem check next week, which my husband is a little more excited about than I am. Lord give me strength.....and maybe a big glass of wine!

Precious Story...get a Kleenex!
April 20, 2005, at the Airport in Knoxville , waiting to board the plane, I had the Bible on my lap and was very intent upon what I was doing. I'd had a marvelous morning with the Lord. I say this because I want to tell you it is a scary thing to have the Spirit of God really working in you. You could end up doing some things you never would have doneotherwise. Life in the Spirit can be dangerous for a thousand reasons not the least of which is your ego. I tried to keep from staring, but he was such a strange sight. Humped over in a wheelchair, he was skin and bones, dressed in clothes that obviously fit when he was at least twenty pounds heavier. His knees protruded from his trousers, and his shoulders looked like the coat hanger was still in his shirt. His hands looked like tangled masses of veins and bones. The strangest part of him was his hair and nails. Stringy, gray hair hung well over his shoulders and down part of his back. His fingernails were long, clean but strangely out of place on an old man. I looked down at my Bible as fast as I could, discomfort burning my face. As I tried to imagine what his story might have been, I found myself wondering if I'd just had a Howard Hughes sighting. Then, I remembered that he was dead. So this man in the airport... an impersonator maybe? Was a camera on us somewhere? There I sat; trying to concentrate on the Word to keep from being concerned about a thin slice of humanity served up on a wheelchair only a few seats from me. All the while, my heart was growing more and more overwhelmed with a feeling for him. Let's admit it. Curiosity is a heap more comfortable than true concern, and suddenly I was awash with aching emotion for this bizarre-looking old man. I had walked with God long enough to see the handwriting on the wall. I've learned that when I begin to feel what God feels, something so contrary to my natural feelings, something dramatic is bound to happen. And it may be embarrassing. I immediately began to resist because I could feel God working on my spirit and I started arguing with God in my mind. 'Oh, no, God, please, no.' I looked up at the ceiling as if I could stare straight through it into heaven and said, 'Don't make me witness to this man. Not right here and now. Please. I'll do anything. Put me on the same plane, but don't make me get up here and witness to this man in front of this gawking audience. Please, Lord!' There I sat in the blue vinyl chair begging His Highness, 'Please don't make me witness to this man. Not now. I'll do it on the plane.' Then I heard it...'I don't want you to witness to him. I want you to brush his hair.' The words were so clear, my heart leap into my throat, and my thoughts spun like a top. Do I witness to the man or brush his hair? No-brainier. I looked straight back up at the ceiling and said, 'God, as I live and breathe, I want you to know I am ready to witness to this man.I'm on this Lord. I'm your girl! You've never seen a woman witness to a man faster in your life. What difference does it make if his hair is a mess if he is not redeemed? I am going to witness to this man'. Again as clearly as I've ever heard an audible word, God seemed to write this statement across the wall of my mind. 'That is not what I said, Beth. I don't want you to witness to him. I want you to go brush his hair.' I looked up at God and quipped, 'I don't have a hairbrush. It's in my suitcase on the plane. How am I supposed to brush his hair without a hairbrush?' God was so insistent that I almost involuntarily began to walk toward him as these thoughts came to me from God's word:'I will thoroughly furnish you unto all good works.' (2 Timothy 3:17) I stumbled over to the wheelchair thinking I could use one myself. Even as I retell this story, my pulse quickens and I feel those same butterflies. I knelt down in front of the man and asked as demurely as possible, 'Sir, may I have the pleasure of brushing your hair?' He looked back at me and said, 'What did you say?' 'May I have the pleasure of brushing your hair?' To which he responded in volume ten, 'Little lady, if you expect me to hear you, you're going to have to talk louder than that.' At this point, I took a deep breath and blurted out , 'SIR, MAY I HAVE THE PLEASURE OF BRUSHING YOUR HAIR?' At which point every eye in the place darted right at me. I was the only thing in the room looking more peculiar than old Mr. Long Locks. Face crimson and forehead breaking out in a sweat, I watched him look up at me with absolute shock on his face, and say, 'If you really want to.' Are you kidding? Of course I didn't want to. But God didn't seem interested in my personal preference right about then. He pressed on my heart until I could utter the words,'Yes, sir, I would be pleased. But I have one little problem. I don't have a hairbrush.' 'I have one in my bag,' he responded. I went around to the back of that wheelchair, and I got on my hands and knees and unzipped the stranger's old carry-on, hardly believing what I was doing. I stood up and started brushing the old man's hair. It was perfectly clean, but it was tangled and matted. I don't do many things well, but must admit I've had notable experience untangling knotted hair mothering two little girls. Like I'd done with either Amanda or Melissa in such a condition, I began brushing at the very bottom of the strands, remembering to take my time not to pull. A miraculous thing happened to me as I started brushing that old man's hair. Everybody else in the room disappeared. There was no one alive for those moments except that old man and me. I brushed and I brushed and I brushed until every tangle was out of that hair. I know this sounds so strange, but I've never felt that kind of love for another soul in my entire life. I believe with all my heart, I - for that few minutes -felt a portion of the very love of God. That He had overtaken my heart for a little while like someone renting a room and making Himself at home for a short while. The emotions were so strong and so pure that I knew they had to be God's. His hair was finally as soft and smooth as an infant's. I slipped the brush back in the bag and went around the chair to face him. I got back down on my knees, put my hands on his knees and said, 'Sir, do you know my Jesus?' He said, 'Yes, I do' Well, that figures, I thought. He explained, 'I've known Him since I married my bride. She wouldn't marry me until I got to know the Savior.' He said, 'You see, the problem is, I haven't seen my bride in months. I've had open-heart surgery, and she's been too ill to come see me. I was sitting here thinking to myself, what a mess I must be for my bride.' Only God knows how often He allows us to be part of a divine moment when we're completely unaware of the significance. This, on the otherhand, was one of those rare encounters when I knew God had intervened in details only He could have known. It was a God moment, and I'll never forget it. Our time came to board, and we were not on the same plane. I was deeply ashamed of how I'd acted earlier and would have been so proud to have accompanied him on that aircraft. I still had a few minutes, and as I gathered my things to board, the airline hostess returned from the corridor, tears streaming down her cheeks. She said, 'That old man's sitting on the plane, sobbing. Why did you do that? What made you do that?' I said, 'Do you know Jesus? He can be the bossiest thing!' And we got to share. I learned something about God that day. He knows if you're exhausted, you're hungry, you're serving in the wrong place or it is time to move on but you feel too responsible to budge. He knows if you're hurting or feeling rejected. He knows if you're sick or drowning under awave of temptation. Or He knows if you just need your hair brushed. He sees you as an individual. Tell Him your need! I got on my own flight, sobs choking my throat, wondering how many opportunities just like that one had I missed along the way . . all because I didn't want people to think I was strange. God didn't send me to that old man. He sent that old man to me.

Life with New Baby
Life right now is pretty much a rotation of eating, sleeping, changing diapers, and entertaining Molly. Jack is really doing great. He is such a sweet baby! I don't know if it's a boy thing, a second born thing, or just his personality, but if all babies were as sweet and easy as he is, I might consider doing the pregnancy thing again!
Molly is hanging in there. She has her days, but I guess we all do. She adores Jack. Every morning she runs to the top of the stairs to look down on him in the pack and play and says, "Hi baby!", waving furiously. She likes to give him kisses, count his fingers and toes, and point out his eyes, nose, and mouth. Poor guy...he will have to get used to it I suppose! The other day I took him to the grocery store and Scotty said she wandered around saying, "Where go baby? Where go Jack?" Too cute!
I took my first outing alone with them yesterday. We went to the grocery store. It had poured rain (praise God!), so all the carts were wet. I knew there was no way I could navigate them both into the store to put them in a dry cart, so I pulled out the double stroller. Molly threw a total fit, stiff legging me so I couldn't get her in. After a lot of sweat and struggle, I got her in, much to her complete dismay! As I was pushing them in with her screaming, a lady drove by and rolled down her window to say, "I remember those days!" I thought it was pretty funny. Thank goodness for free balloons at Publix customer service! That did the trick, and I succesfully grocery shopped with 2 kids! I was so proud of myself!

It's HOT!
Onto another thought, I'd love to hear from all you moms out there about how you handled going from 1 to 2. I've noticed that my anxiety level is kind of high lately in general, enough so that I talked to my dr. about it at my last appointment, just in case he thought I might need some "chill pills"! He attributed it to the fact that as a veteran parent, I know what is coming my way, and that it is hard. I think he is more right than I would have guessed! I'm nervous about a lot of things, and of course being pregnant all of my emotions are heightened anyways. But I'm nervous most about these things:
- The effect a newborn has on marriage
- How is Molly going to take this?
- The effect a newborn has on LIFE.
I am just starting to feel like I have some freedom to my life. Molly is at the stage where it is easier to take her somewhere and let her just play, so I feel like I can really visit with my friends (something I can't get enough of!!!!). I am pretty free to go wherever I need to go, and only have 1 naptime to get home for (which I need myself, so that works out well!). I feel really nervous that I'm about to completely lose my life again, before I even really feel I have it back. I realize that sounds a little selfish, but I know that anyone who is a mom would understand. Any advice???? Did y'all feel this way too????

Bon Jovi is AWESOME!!!!
- Huey Lewis and the News
- U2 Joshua Tree
- Garth Brooks
- Love and Rockets (I know....scary!)
- Wynona (sp?) Judd and Clint Black (at Auburn)
- Backstreet Boys
- N*SYNC (one of my favorites!!!)
- The Temptations
- Neil Diamond (loved it!)
- Yanni (free tickets)
- Justin Timberlake
- Bon Jovi
And of course I've done the Christian circuit too, with Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant, Mercy Me, The Gaithers, Sandy Patti, Carmen, Michael Card...I think that is all.
How random is that list? I think there are more that I am not even thinking of! Out of all of them, Bon Jovi and N*SYNC are tied for the 2 most amazing, entertaining concerts I've ever been to! So if you have a chance to go....DO IT!

You know you are pregnant when...
- getting winded going up the stairs, regardless of how many there are
- getting California-wild-fire type indigestion from eating ANYTHING!!!
- waking up to roll over in bed, because it is such an ordeal I can't stay asleep and heave myself over
- wanting to cry with love of my child one minute and wanting to lock her in her room until she is 30 the next
- having to tell my husband to SLOW DOWN everywhere we go, because I can't keep up!
- having a filthy house that still isn't all unpacked after 5 weeks because I just don't have the energy (and quite frankly can't bring myself to care all that much)
- having people constantly ask me if I'm having twins or go into shock when I tell them I still have 3 more months to go
- having people tell me over and over again about how "two are SO much harder than one!" (I get it people! Thanks for the encouragement!)
The list goes on and on, but you get the point! Is it possible to have PMS still while you are pregnant, because I'm quite sure that is what I have! On a positive note, this bitter pregnant woman is dragging herself to see Bon Jovi tonight!!!! Can't wait!

Happy 90th Grandma!
As a side note, I got many "wow! That baby will be here any day now huh?" and "have they checked for twins?" As you can see in the picture, I've most definitely "blossomed"!!!! But no, I am not having twins, and I went to the dr. today and I actually only measure a week ahead! Baby measured a week ahead at my last 2 ultrasounds (my only 2 ultrasounds), so maybe it will be an August 2 baby instead of August 9th??? Who knows.....

Easter
Here is a pic of cute Molly in her Easter dress given to her by her MeeMee (Scotty's mom). She was so funny when I put it on her....she immediately looked down and then very happily said, "A bunny!" This is the best picture I could get, since the child will not be still long enough to get any other pictures! We have a family picture, but my face looks so unbelievably fat and round that I couldn't bring myself to post it. Sorry.....vanity!

We are moving!

This is a picture of the home that we officially have a contract on as of today! We finally got an offer on our house and signed a contract on Friday, which means we spent ALL day on Saturday house hunting. We looked at 10 different homes, and this was our easy 1st choice. So it looks like we will be moving on March 21 to Aberdeen (for those of you who are familiar with the area)! It's a terrible market to sell in, but the Lord has blessed us as buyers! Now all I have to do is pack, find movers, call all the utilities, change our address, and did I mention packing? It will be a fun February and March!

Check it out!
I know some of you have seen Scotty in a couple of commercials now, but this is his first as a paid actor (the others were favors!)! This was shot at our house last week. I had hoped that they would leave all the info. on the "For Sale" sign....good exposure! But he photoshopped it out! Anyhow, I hope you guys get a kick out of it, and if you live anywhere near Jim Ellis Volkswagon, you will probably see this on cable some day soon!
